Webinar: The Need for New Therapies in the NICU and What You Can Do to Help

On Wednesday, March 23, experts and advocates convened for a webinar to discuss the pressing need for new neonatal medications.  Specifically, speakers examined the promising policy developments that may offer a way to solve the challenge of encouraging the development of drugs for our nations newborns.

The diverse panel discussed the difficulties in neonatal drug development and the legislation currently moving through the U.S. Senate, The Promoting Life-Saving New Therapies for Neonates Act. In conclusion, the panel encouraged stakeholders to use this simple form send a letter to their Members of Congress urging them ​to cosponsor the legislation.   

Speakers on the panel included: 
  • ​Dr. Jonathan Davis, Vice-Chair of Pediatrics and Chief of Newborn Medicine at Tufts Medical Center, Chair of the Neonatal Advisory Committee at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA);
  • Allyson Kayton, MSN, APRN, NNP-BC, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Health Policy & Advocacy Committee at the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN);
  • Keira Sorrells, Co-founder Preemie Parent Alliance (PPA) and Founder of Zoe Rose Memorial Foundation, mother of preemie triplets;
  • Jennifer Degl, Writer for The Huffington Post and Author of From Hope to Joy, a story chronicling her experience in the NICU after giving birth to her micro-preemie daughter, Joy.
